Why book a combo tour instead of one activity

Two reasons. The obvious one is time: one pickup, one drop-off and one afternoon instead of two. The less obvious one is that the two halves feel nothing like each other, and doing them back to back is what makes that land.

A quad bike is loud and fast and you spend the hour concentrating. A camel is slow enough that you finally look at where you are. Neither on its own gives you both.

The most-booked of the three. You ride the quad across the palm grove tracks first, after a briefing and with a helmet on, then swap to a camel for the slower half. There are traditional villages and viewpoints on the route and plenty of places to stop for photographs.

Pony ride and quad bike: 3 hours, €44.07

The family booking. Younger children ride ponies with a handler beside them. Everyone from seven upwards rides their own quad, a smaller machine than the adult ones, with a guide leading the route and a helmet provided.

Everybody is out at the same time in the same place, which is the part that makes it work with a spread of ages.

Camel ride and pony tour: 3 hours, €28.95

The gentlest of the three, and the cheapest. Nothing on it moves faster than a walk, and neither half needs any riding experience.

It suits families with children too young for a quad, and anyone who would rather look at the Palmeraie than drive through it.

Which combo tour to pick

With children under seven in the group, take the camel and pony combo, or the pony and quad if the adults still want a turn on a quad. Without them, the quad and camel is the one most people book and the one most people are happiest with.

Why the combo tours are private

The dead time on a shared combo tour is the changeover, when a dozen people swap activities at once. On a private booking there is nobody to wait for, which is most of the reason two or three hours is enough to do both halves properly.
